This is the first book of a series of seven books dealing with the techniques and technology of lasers. It gives the physical principles for the buildup of laser-radiation. It includes a description of the principles of laser operation and gives in brief the characteristics of the lasers applied in the technological processes. The book starts with a brief explanation of the fundamentals of quantum electronics and gaseous discharge. Furthermore it gives a classification of the laser of gases and solid materials.

It is a source book for students in advanced semesters and for experts working in the field of lasers and their technologies.
