6 - Fiber Optic Communications Author:
Joseph C. Palais Translated
by: Prof. Dr. Eng. George Snaij Revised
by: Prof. Dr. Eng. A. M. Nafakh This
is a book that deals with the subject without complexity. It gives the
information necessary to understand with less difficulty. Important theoretical
and mathematical results are given without the long proofs. However these
results are explained on physical terms when possible and appropriate, and
extensive tables and figures are used to make these results readily usable so it
provides a realistic view. It does not presume from the reader any background in
fiber optics or optic communications. Only the simplest concepts from algebra
and geometry are involved in explaining the characteristics of fiber systems.
Appropriate background material on optic, electronics, and communication is
introduced in the text as needed. The
professionals benefiting from this book include practicing design engineers
concerned with the selection and application of components and with the design
and evaluation of systems. It is furthermore suitable as teaching book for
students to graduate in communication engineering.
